At the start of 2017, Tan Delta commenced a project with one of the world’s largest Power Generation Hire companies. A year post-installation, the company are reporting significant operational and financial benefits.
Tan Delta were approached in 2016 by the power-gen hire company, who wanted to actively seek ways to increase oil life in their Diesel and Gas engine gensets. Historically the company had run all maintenance and servicing schedules in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines and felt that oil was often getting changed when it was still in nearly-new condition, especially in gensets that were on standby and only run for test periods. Oil change frequency not only had a financial impact with the volume of new oil purchased, but oil waste disposal costs and associated labour and service costs were subsequently over-inflated.
Tan Delta’s OQSx sensors were fitted to over 100 gas and diesel generators, deployed for application in a wide range of sectors including power plants, petrochemical and refining, manufacturing, and military. A year post installation, the data gathered has been analysed and the company is pleased to report that they have seen an average increase in change cycles from 500 to 725 hours and have seen average annual savings of $6,000 per asset.
As significant players in the power-for-hire in the industry, the company now have a distinct commercial advantage and are planning commencement of phase 2 of the installation programme early 2019. Alongside their technology centre of excellence, Tan Delta have been involved from concept development through to product commercialisation, ensuring a successful and cost-effective project delivery, with phase 2 aiming to reduce servicing frequency across their portfolio.
